Hanover, MD – January 15, 2015 – Dalma Novak, Pharad’s VP of Engineering and President of the IEEE Photonics Society, discusses the International Year of Light and the significance of light-based technologies in The Institute newsletter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
The United Nations has proclaimed 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (IYL 2015). The mission of IYL 2015 is to raise awareness of the importance of light-based technologies in improving our quality of life in aspects such as health, communications, and the environment. IYL 2015 also recognizes the history of light in the universe.
The IEEE Photonics Society is a founding partner of IYL 2015 and as President, Dalma Novak was recently interviewed by the IEEE to discuss the International Year of Light and how the Photonic Society plans to contribute to this global initiative. “Light and optical technologies play a significant role in our daily lives, and their applications can help solve some of society’s most pressing problems,” said IEEE Fellow Dalma Novak.
Nearly 1,500 people including Nobel laureates, diplomats, and industry leaders will attend the IYL opening ceremony on 19 and 20 January at the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization’s headquarters in Paris.
